How to Buy a Bike on Craigslist

Ever wanted to buy a bike off of Craigslist and don’t know how to do it? Ever wanted to share your knowledge of how to buy a bike off Craigslist? This is the event for you!

Come swing by the Silhouette Lounge in Allston anytime after 6:30 on 3/7 and we’ll talk and swap tips about the best way to go about buying a used bike and what to look out for.

The Sil has got popcorn (they just got a new machine last week!) and cheap drinks as well as ample amounts of water and soda available. Cash only, but they do have an ATM and there is a BOA ATM nearby.

Femmechanics Organizing Meeting

Hey Everyone!

This is your friendly reminder that Femmechanics needs YOU to help make all the awesome stuff we do possible! As a volunteer-run collective, we need your ideas, enthusiasm and know-how to help make Femmechanics better than ever.

We are having an organizing meeting this Saturday, February 10th from 1pm-5pm at MIT in Building 14 (E) Room 309.

We will be discussing our ideas and hopes for this coming year of Femmechanics shenanigans.

Please come and share your ideas for 2018!

Reflective Fabric Crafting!

download.jpeg

Join us on Wednesday, February 21st from 6:30-9:30pm for some sewing!

We’ll provide some reflective fabric, sewing machine(s), and materials – you bring a snack to share and something that you want to add some reflective fabric too.

Especially in the dark days of winter, being reflective is important!

Charlotte will be hosting so please email femmechanics@gmail.com to get the address!

Check out more on the facebook event.

Babes Bike Boston 3 (B cubed)

Join Femmechanics for our 3rd Annual BABES BIKE BOSTON ALLEYCAT!

BBB is an alleycat for FTW (femme and/or trans and/or women) riders of all biking abilities!

We’ll meet at Paul Revere Park – registration at 2pm, start at 4pm.

This year we’ll be throwing something a little different at you! Instead of racing to whoever crosses the finish line first, this year’s event will reward a cunning, smart route in addition to speed and grit. We’ll have a long list of tasks and checkpoint locations worth a variety of points.

Every person must cross the finish line by 6:30. Whoever has collected the most points will be the winner!

$5 – $10 suggested donation as a fundraiser for Femmechanics

The ride will end at Smith Playground in Allston at the bike polo court. As long as weather permits, we will have a fun outdoor party to celebrate the best day of the year! Don’t worry. We have a rain plan ; )

Check out the Facebook event for more info!

Thank you to our generous sponsors. Support them because they support you.

The second year of Babes Bike Boston was the best yet, and we as the organizing team could not be more proud to see all you babely sharks come out to participate in this years event. Thank you to everyone for diving deep into the ocean with us!

In total 84 babes came out to ride, and we are so proud to see this event grow and reflect the growth of Femmechanics in the past year. This event would not be possible without the amazing community that Femmechanics has built in two short years of existence!

This years sharks discovered hidden creatures on a bridge, chased a shark in a park, smashed the system, fished for positive thoughts, took 2 different kinds of sealfies, wrote lune poems, drew sea creatures on bikes, signed petitions for bike infrastructure, and found holes in tubes (while blindfolded!). A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped make all these check points possible, and to our volunteers taking photos and at the finishline!

We also want to give a huge thank you to all of our sponsors who helped make this event possible. We are so grateful to our community of bike brands, local businesses, shops, and more who support the FTW (femme/trans/women) bike community. Please support them, because they support you! Thank you All-City, Surly, Banjo Brothers, Kryptonite, Craft, Bern, Ferris Wheels, Trash Bags, Pike Powdercoating, Bella Luna, Bikes Not Bombs, Red Bones, Boston Organics and AlFreshCo.

A very special thank you to El Pelon and PBR for being foundational sponsors of this event and helping to make our after-party at POP Allston such a bumping party.

We’d also like to give some special shout-outs to Ellen Bechtel for making the AMAZING artwork this year, and for inspiring us with your ocean vision. Also a huge thanks to Boycott Brass for playing at our after-party and serenading us with those amazing 90s jams.

Grrrease Time at Hub Cancelled tonight!

Sorry for the last minute notice but Grrrease Time at Hub is cancelled tonight (11/18)! There will also be no December Grrrease Time at Hub (Hub closes for the end of the year holidays). But it will be back and awesome as ever in 2016!

Don’t worry though – you can still work on your bike at Grrrease Times at Commonwheels Bicycle Co-Op the 1st Sunday of the Month, or at Bikes Not Bombs the 2nd Monday of the month.
